Race Map - Queen's Duathlon Saturday 27th June 2009

Directions for Race

The Routes

Transition Area

The transition area will be just off Queen’s Road, adjacent to Hamilton Road (see map above)

Competitors will exit the first run at the same point as the entry point. Bike racks will be numbered and the competitor will proceed to their bike location and head out of transition over the timing mat onto the bike route.

Stewards will be on hand to provide directions to the competitors.

 Bike course

The bike route will be 16km in length and involves 5 laps of an out and back route. The majority of the turns on the route will be right-hand turns which will ensure a safer route as it avoids competitors having to cross junctions.
The competitor will exit transition and mount their bike after crossing the timing mat. Competitors will be required to fasten their helmets before touching their bikes. The mount line will be located at the exit from the transition area i.e. before the exit to the Queen's Road.  Appendix A gives a detailed map of the bike route.
*  The competitor will turn right on exiting the transition area.
*  Following 1km flat cycle, the competitor will turn right at Wolff road.
*  The competitor will reach the first turn point on Wolff Road, they will then return along Wolff Road and Queen's Road until they reach the second turn point at located at the start of the race track.  The competitor will then complete a further 4 laps of the cycle route.

Competitors must have a road worthy bike and wear a hard shell helmet.  When the competitor is entering the transition area to set up their transition space, they will be required to demonstrate that their bikes are roadworthy e.g. by spinning wheels and pulling brakes.

This is time trial cycling so drafting rules will apply.  The drafting rule means that cyclists may not be closer than 5 metres to other cyclists unless passing which must be done quickly.

Stewards will alert competitors to dangers and descents and these will also be set out in the race briefing document which will be made available on the event website and in the pre-race briefing.

The Run route

On completing the bike section, competitors will dismount the bike at the ‘dismount’ line before entering the transition area. Helmets must remain on and fastened until the bike is racked.

The competitor will turn right on exiting the transition area.
*  Following 1km flat run, the competitor will turn right at Wolff road.
*  The competitor will reach the first turn point on Wolff Road, they will then return along Wolff Road and Queen's Road until they reach the finish line located at the start of the race track.

The Finish

The finish area will be in on the Queen’s Road close to turn around 1 (the finish gantry will be the starting point of the first run leg). (See map above). Runners will cross the timing mat at the finish. The location of the finish gantry is also indicated in the diagram in the Transition section of this document.
